Like any modern urban center, Shanghai offers various avenues of nocturnal entertainment. Numerous bars, restaurants and ritzy nightclubs dot the city’s entertainment landscape. If you enjoy dancing the night way to the sound of thumping tunes, you are in for a special treat for the city hosts several nightclubs, which stay open until late and cater to every taste and preference.
Muse on the Bund
Muse, which welcomes its patron with a huge signboard emblazoned with its name in gold, occupies an entire floor of a shopping mall on the Bund. This thumping nightclub reverberates with hip-hop, house and electronica sounds nightly as it plays host to Shanghai’s movers and shakers. A large rectangular bar in the center of the main space makes sure that drinks are a plenty though the club also has tables with bottle service along with lush KTV rooms and VIP lounges. Also, onsite is a large roof terrace with an infinity pool and poolside seating.

MYST
This three-story club is your archetype Chinese club featuring many bells and whistles. Myst, conveniently located in Jing'an is probably the largest club in Shanghai and is popular with locals and visitors alike. This hedonistic heaven features a lounge on its ground floor, exclusive luxe VIP rooms on its top floor and a dance, drink and play area on the middle floor where revelers tend to congregate. The tables at Myst not only offer bottle service, they also serve up a variety of fine champagnes for the club’s many freewheeling patrons. The club’s leggy dancers who perform on a stage that rises from the dance floor are an added attraction.

The 7th Floor
The 7th Floor called so because it is located on the 7th of the Langsheng Building on Huaihai Lu, has been drawing the crowds since it’s opening in November 2013. The club is inherently Chinese in style and features low plush couches, a jam-packed dance-floor and attractive female dancers. The DJs spin a variety of popular tunes including the latest Top-40 hits. The 7th Floor has hosted many well-known international acts since it opened for business.

The Shelter
The Shelter as its name suggests is accommodated in the basement of a building, a space that once served as a bomb shelter. Renowned as the home of Shanghai’s alternative music scene, this dark, loud dance club has played host to several international alternative music and dance acts since its inception. Shelter’s dance area is usually crowded and busy, but it also a chill-out space where one can lounge and have a conversation.
Opening hours: 9pm until late (Wednesday to Saturday)
Mook
Mook, which extends two floors, boasts of all the hallmarks of a typical Chinese mega-club, 3D visual effects (by Visual Drugstore), top-notch sound and acoustics (Meyer Sound Laboratories), gorgeous dancers and expensive bottle service at its tables. Popular dance music rules at Mook and the club also hosts a relatively quiet cocktail lounge towards the back.

M1NT
The most glamorous and posh club in Shanghai sits atop a towering skyscraper near the Bund and affords sweeping views of the city. M1NT encompasses a restaurant, club, bar and rooftop and attracts the beautiful and affluent people of Shanghai and elsewhere. Top DJs, a shark tank and a show kitchen are some of the other attractions at M1NT, a member’s only enclave where top 40, hip-hop, house and electronic tunes rule.
Rich Baby
The oddly named Rich Baby (formerly Babyface) is a pioneer on China’s clubbing scene. Boasting of a widely imitated style, the club, features all the trimmings of a typical Chinese nightclub, a heaving dance floor, booth, tables equipped with bottle-service and stunning female dancers. The music selection at Rich Baby features the entire range from top 40 commercial tunes to hip hop and house.
