Cathy Pacific to deploy Boeing 777-300 planes to San Francisco

Cathy Pacific Airways has announced its decision to replace the existing Boeing 747-400 planes on some of its long haul routes. The airline has started implementing this new policy on a few routes and intends to replace its Boeing 747-400 planes operating service to Johannesburg and San Francisco.

The airline believes that Boeing 747-400s are aging and need to be retired. It plans to deploy Boeing 777-300 ERs to these cities. As per its plan, the new planes will take their maiden flights beginning October 26, 2014. From the next year onwards, passengers will be able to book airline tickets on the newer Boeing on these routes.

The airline has not cleared doubts about the fact whether it will continue using B747-4s on short hauls in Asia. The airline however, continues to use these aircrafts for their cargo services. The airline is the flagship carrier of Hong Kong. It flies to about 168 destinations across 42 countries around the world. Its fleet comprises Airbus A330, Airbus A340, Boeing 747, and Boeing 777 aircrafts. Its hub is based in Hong Kong International Airport. It also focuses on Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei.

The airline already has Boeing 777-300 planes in operations on various routes. These planes comprise seating across three classes including business class, premium economy class, and economy class. Some orders for these planes are pending and it hopes to take delivery in the near future.
