Delta Air Lines and WestJet Airlines sign codeshare agreement expanding partnership

Delta Air Lines recently signed codeshare agreement with leading Canadian carrier WestJet Airlines. The new codeshare agreement is aimed at expanding the partnership between the two carriers.

The agreement came into effect starting January 23, 2012. Both the carriers will now be able to operate flights within the US and Canada.

The new codeshare agreement will now allow Delta Air Lines to place its flight code on WestJet Airlines flights to more than 15 Canadian cities. Similarly, WesJet Airlines will also place its flight code on Delta Air Lines flights in five markets in the US.

The agreement also allows the members of Delta Air Line’s SkyMiles frequent flyer program and WestJet Airline’s Frequent Guest Program to earn miles or rewards on each other’s codeshare flights.

Earlier, Delta Air Lines and WestJet Airlines had signed an interline agreement in 2011 allowing customers of both the carriers to purchase connecting flights on one ticket, receive boarding passes for all segments at their first check-in, and tag bags through to their final destination.
