Delta Air Lines shifting Albany flights from JFK to New York LaGuardia

Delta Air Lines recently announced that it will be shifting its only Albany flights from New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to New York LaGuardia Airport. Flights to New York LaGuardia from Albany will be shifted in March this year.

The decision has left businesspersons and Albany airport officials extremely disappointed. However, the airline in a statement said that the passengers were not using the flights to connect with Delta’s international flights. The passengers were instead going through other Delta hubs in Atlanta, Minneapolis and Detroit.

A Delta Air Lines spokeswoman said that a lot of travelers were local passengers. She said that the 50-seat regional jet serving passengers from Albany to New York JFK will now be used to carry those local passengers between New York LaGuardia and Albany. She also quipped that LaGuardia is mostly a local market.

Travel industry experts feel that the loss of Delta connecting service could result in higher fares to Europe.

Delta Air Lines however said that the demand for service between LaGuardia and Albany has significantly increased.
