Ethiopian Airlines eyeing new destinations in North America, Asia

Ethiopian Airlines is bracing to expand its long-haul network further this year. The airline wants to launch new flights services to new destinations in North America and Asia, and is on course with its expansion plans. The airline is flourishing and presently on good stead, and is now ready to open new routes.

Media reports said that Ethiopian Airlines has recently acquired its first batch of Airbus A350-900 aircrafts, each configured with a carrying capacity of a total of 343 seats. The airline has also received its Boeing 787-8 aircrafts, each having a seating capacity of a total of 270 passengers. With the new Airbus and Boeing aircrafts in its fleet the expansion of the airline’s international network is becoming possible now.

A spokesperson of Ethiopian Airlines said that it will be launching flights to New York in June 2016. The airline is already operating flights to three other North American destinations, which include Washington Dulles, Los Angeles and Toronto. With the launch of flights to New York, the premier U.S. city will now become the airline’s fourth gateway in North America. Moreover, Ethiopia’s national flag carrier is also planning its U.S. network with the launch of new Houston and Chicago routes scheduled in 2017.

Ethiopian Airlines has also announced it will be expanding its flight network to Asia as well. The airline is planning to launch flights to Singapore, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh City and Chengdu. East Asia has in recent years continued to be the airline’s main focus for rabid expansion. The total number of destinations in Asia being served presently has now reached to nine. According to media reports, the airline has made known its intention that it will continue with its expansion plans unhindered by doubling its fleet over the next decade. Ethiopian Airlines is all set to celebrate its 70th founding anniversary in 2016.
