Etihad Airways has started operating its additional flights to New York JFK utilizing Airbus A380 aircraft. The second daily service was launched by UAE’s national carrier early June 2017. The airline will now be operating all its 14 weekly flights between Abu Dhabi and New York JFK with the superjumbo A380 aircrafts. One of the twice daily services on Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route was being served with the help of a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which has been replaced with A380 aircraft presently.
Etihad Airways had initially introduced daily nonstop flights between the two destinations starting from October 26, 2006 with the help of Boeing 777-300ER aircrafts. The airline’s second daily nonstop flight on Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route was later launched in March 2014. One of the daily service on the route was upgraded with the deployment of an Airbus A380 aircraft in November 2015.
Peter Baumgartner, Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways, while speaking to mediapersons said, “Our customers have positively responded after the company introduced Airbus A380 aircraft two years ago on Abu Dhabi-New York JFK route. I would rather say that the feedback from our valued customers have been phenomenal. This has now further prompted us to launch the superjumbo A380 to conduct flights to/from the Big Apple. The expansion of the route will be welcomed by our customers again.”
Currently, Etihad Airways is operating flights to six destinations in the United States. These include San Francisco, Dallas, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York JFK. The customers taking flights out of Abu Dhabi International Airport take the advantage of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Preclearance facility through which the flights upon landing at any of the U.S. airports in the airline’s network are treated as domestic arrivals.
