ExpressJet to launch flights to South Bend from Newark

ExpressJet has recently announced to offer non-stop, direct flights between South Bend and Newark. The service on this route will commence from October 27, 2014.

The flights will be operated using 50-seat ERJ-145 regional jet. The journey on this route will take an estimated time of two hours and three minutes. The first flight into South Bend will begin from October 26 and first departure from this place will be from October 27.

Mike Daigle, Executive Director of ExpressJet, said that we have spent several years to obtain this route. The service will provide the first non-stop route between the New York City market and South Bend. New York City is the top travel destination for local passengers. Before announcing the launch of this route we have special heed to figure out the travel pattern of passengers flying from this area and even from other airports.

Jeff Rea, president and CEO of St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce, said that New York is an important link as it will attract business opportunities to South Bend. As per him many area companies do their business on the East Coast, incurring  extensive travel between these two cities. The service on this route will not only increase domestic connections but also open unexploited opportunities for connectivity while working with global business. This will help in the economic development of South Bend.

In the month of September last year, Frontier Airlines ended flights to the South Bend market due to fewer passengers between South Bend and Denver. If the upcoming ExpressJet flights on this route are at 80 percent capacity then it will bring an extra $50 million to the local economy every year.

The flight on South Bend – Newark route will depart South Bend at 1820 hours and arrive in Newark at 0823 hours. The return flight will leave Newark at 1900 hours and arrive in South Bend at 2115 hours.
