Flights to Los Angeles: A Travelers Weather Guide

Though California is a sunny state, the weather varies depending on the month and season you visit. When booking plane tickets to Los Angeles you might want to consider the time of year you are visiting. Not only will this help you decide what to pack, but also what attractions or other activities you can do in your trip.

January through March
January through March has some favorable weather for travelers taking flights to Los Angeles, but the temperatures are cooler. So if your family is looking to get away for the early winter and head to the beach, you may want to avoid January through March months. The average high ranges from 65 to 67 degrees Fahrenheit, while the overnight low can drop to 49 degrees Fahrenheit.  The good news is, the sun is shining 72 percent of the time during these months, but expect heavy rain and possible delays for flights headed into LAX.

April through June
At the beginning of the spring and heading into summer, travelers taking airline tickets to Los Angeles might be surprised at the drastic differences in weather. April, for example, still has temperatures in the low 70s, but also has extensive rainfall that can last the entire month. May, on the other hand, gives travelers on cheap flights to Los Angeles sunny skies and higher temperatures. Once June rolls around, the temperatures are more desirable, but overcast is extensive -- what many locals refer to as “June Gloom”.

July through September
The hottest months for travelers looking to take flights to Los Angeles are certainly in late summer/early fall. With temperatures hitting up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit, it is the most popular time for travelers. Therefore, expect longer lines at theme parks, attractions or even museums. If you wait until later in the season, close to September, lines will start to thin at some of the popular tourist areas, but temperatures will still be high.

October through December
Ranked as one of the best times of the year to travel to Los Angeles by frequent flyers is late fall/early winter. The temperatures cool back down to a desirable 70 degrees Fahrenheit and rainfall is scarce. That means you can take advantage of cheap plane tickets, cooling temperatures and fewer crowds since children are back in school. See some of Los Angeles best events during this time of year such as the LA Marathon.
