Frontier Airlines emerges leader at Trenton-Mercer airport

Frontier Airlines, the leading U.S. low cost carrier continues to maintain tremendous growth at the Trenton-Mercer Airport ever since it started flying out of here in late 2012.

A 12-month study published recently said that the decision of Frontier Airlines to make the regional Trenton-Mercer Airport its primary hub for east coast operations has in fact benefited the airport immensely. The study said that though air travel across the USA has not been able to grow significantly, but this has not been the case with Trenton-Mercer Airport as it has witnessed an appreciable four-digit growth.

According to the study, a 2715 percent growth in outbound travel at Trenton-Mercer Airport has been reported over a 12-month period. This has been achieved only because of Frontier Airlines. The study was conducted from September 2012 and continued until September 2013. The study has ranked Trenton-Mercer Airport at No. 1 in air travel growth nationwide. The regional airports at Punta Gorda, Williston and Port Arthur are among the leading airports that have reported good growth.

Frontier Airlines started flights to only one destination between Mercer County and Orlando in late 2012. The airline succeeded in boosting its revenues and started serving a total of 17 destinations within a period of 18 months. 

Brian Hughes, Mercer County Executive, said that the Trenton-Mercer Airport has seen a boost in passenger traffic here with increase in flights services. He said that ever since Frontier Airlines began its operations out of the airport, it has made the region far more economically stable. Hughes said that the airport is greatly excited to move at the No. 1 spot in growth nationally, with more and more travelers supporting Frontier Airlines as is being currently witnessed by its robust sales.
