Frontier Airlines mulling flights cut to three cities from CVG

Frontier Airlines recently indicated that it is planning to flights services to three U.S. cities from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG). The airline’s plan is being considered to be the biggest ever reduction in its services ever since the discount carrier resumed flights to CVG in the year 2013.

Media reports said that Frontier Airlines is moving ahead with its plans to stop operating nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale from Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky and also significantly reducing its flights services in half to Las Vegas in October this year.

A spokesperson of Frontier Airlines while speaking to media persons said that the airline will be discontinuing its nonstop flights to Atlanta from CVG effective from October 24. However, the Atlanta flights will be resumed as seasonal service in 2016.   

Travel experts said that the airline’s downsizing exercise at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky doesn’t necessarily meant that Frontier Airlines is failing. The service reduction can at best be considered as the end of the Denver-based low-cost carrier’s growth story at CVG.

The reduction in flights services at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport by Frontier Airlines comes only after six months of expanded nonstop flights to Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas and other U.S. cities, and also after launching flights to Atlanta as well.

Frontier Airlines will be implementing its second round of cuts at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport in 2015. This comes after the airline discontinued all its flights services to the Philadelphia region in January this year. The cuts have also come at a time when Frontier Airlines is facing stiff competition by its main rival Allegiant Air at CVG.
