Frontier Airlines resumes flights to Sioux City with low fares

Passengers traveling to/from Sioux City are happier these days with cheap flight options. Leading U.S. low-cost carrier Frontier Airlines has made this possible once again.

Frontier Airlines recently announced it is resuming its flights to Sioux Gateway Airport. This news has been widely welcomed by the travelers from the region as the airline is providing cheap airfares and convenient connections to several western destinations.

The nonstop flights will be operational from Denver International Airport and will transport the passengers thrice every week to Sioux City. The flights between the two destinations will operate on every alternate day.

Frontier Airlines briefly operated flights to Sioux City. The airline’s performance was appreciable with its traffic exceeding 75 percent regularly. However, the airline, which operates out of its main hub at Denver International Airport, had to drop operations on this route as part of its cost-cutting exercise when it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Before pulling out of Sioux City in May 2008 unexpectedly, the airline operated only for seven months. During that period, Frontier Airlines was the only carrier to conduct flights out of Sioux Gateway Airport.

After six years, the customers traveling to/from Sioux Gateway Airport will get multiple airlines to choose from as well as multiple hubs to connect for the first time. Apart from Frontier Airlines, the airport was being served by American Airlines, the only carrier here. The federal government offers subsidy to American Airlines for its flights. However, Frontier Airlines’ flights will not be offered this facility. American Airlines offered to fly on a daily basis from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport to Sioux Gateway Airport.

According to Frontier Airlines, the fares being offered to the customers at Sioux City are quite competitive when compared to those being offered on similar flights to Sioux Falls or Omaha. The airline is presently offering special fares to Sioux City and other U.S. cities starting at $49* one-way. The promotional fares are valid for travel until November 19, 2014.

The airline however said that the fares for travel between Denver and Sioux City and return are likely to vary greatly. This will though depend on the date of travel as well as availability of seats at varied price levels. If the customers choose to fly between the two cities on Monday, July 14, the tickets will cost as low as $35*. When booking return flight on Friday, July 20, the fares offered starts from $55*.

* The fares are one-way, and inclusive of government taxes, airport fees and fuel surcharges. Other terms and conditions are applicable.
