Frontier Airlines Santa Rosa-Denver flights next summer likely

Frontier Airlines recently announced that it is planning to launch daily roundtrip flights to Denver from Santa Rosa next summer.

The airline revealed that preparations by Sonoma County officials are already underway to provide US$1.5 million in public and private incentives to Frontier Airlines for starting flights to Denver from Santa Rosa in the coming summer.

The US Department of Transportation recently gave a US$650,000 grant to Sonoma County with backing from Frontier Airlines to expand flight services at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport. The grant is for starting a new route and provides convenience to air travelers from Wine County who take flights to/from eastern destinations.

The terms of starting new flights are still being negotiated between Frontier Airlines and Sonoma County officials. However, the airline said that a seasonal summer service will be initially started with one roundtrip flight being operated daily. The shorter runways at the Charles M. Schulz-Sonoma County Airport are seemingly proving to be a hurdle in the finalization of the deal.

Frontier Airlines has put forward its proposal to the Sonoma County airport officials to deploy Embraer E-190 aircrafts, which are designed for a 5,500 feet long runway, for flights into Santa Rosa. However, the current length of the county airport’s runway is 5,100 feet only.
