Hawaiian Airlines, largest airline based out of Hawaii announced to discontinue this flight service to Fukuoka, Japan. The airline for the last time will operate this daily flight on June 30 this year.
Providing more details Hawaiian Airlines said that they have struggled for the last two years while operating this route. This route was not financially viable for them anymore and was not attracting enough passengers; hence they decided to evoke service to this Japanese city completely.
Flight 453 will fly the last leg from Honolulu to Fukuoka on June 29 and flight 454 will fly its final return flight from Fukuoka to Honolulu on June 30. The airline said all the passengers who have booked cheap tickets on this route for travel beyond June 30, will be re-accommodated. To make alternate arrangements all such passengers will be contacted by the airline in few weeks of time. The airline is accepting booking on Honolulu-Fukuoka for travel until June 30.
Hawaiian Airline first started flying this route on April 16, 2012. Apart from Fukuoka the airline also flies to five more Japanese cities. It serves daily flights to Osaka and Tokyo and files three times a week to Sapporo and Sendai.
Fukuoka as a destination was part of the rapid expansion plan or overseas routes that Hawaiian underwent in November 2010. Fukuoka was one of the 10 international destinations to be added.
In 2013 Hawaiian discontinued operations of its Manila flights too.
