Icelandair to begin Portland-Reykjavik service from May 2015

Iceland’s national carrier Icelandair has announced that it will be launching seasonal nonstop flights to Reykjavik from Portland starting from May 20, 2015. The seasonal flights between the two destinations would continue until October 21, 2015.

The launch of flights from Portland International Airport (PDX) makes it the airline’s third gateway in North America’s Pacific Northwest region. Portland will also become the airline’s 14th destination in the United States and Canada.

Icelandair in a statement said that the seasonal flights between Portland International Airport and Keflavik International Airport would operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays. The flight will be of seven hours duration.

Providing details about the new flight schedule, a spokesperson of Icelandair said that the flight will depart from Portland International Airport at 3.40 pm and arrive at Keflavik International Airport at 6.15 am next morning. The return flight will make its departure from Keflavik International Airport at 5.15 pm and reach Portland the same day at 6.15 pm (local time). The return flights would operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week.

Icelandair, which is currently into codeshare partnership with Alaska Airlines, will now be providing convenient connections through its extensive route network through its Portland hub. The U.S. cities where the airline will now be providing services include San Jose, Oakland, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Phoenix. The airline will also be serving gateways in Alaska and Hawaii as well. The other destinations being served with seasonal service in North America include Edmonton, Toronto, Denver, Seattle, Washington D.C., New York JFK and Boston.
