JetBlue adds two more daily flights in Charleston-Regan route

JetBlue has recently announced to add two more daily flights between Charleston and Reagan. This service will be launched from June 19, 2014.

The flights will operate from Charleston International Airport, US to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. These two daily flights will help passengers to commute between these cities conveniently. This new service will be operated by 100-seat Embraer.

JetBlue’s new route will provide both business as well as leisure travelers’ easy access to country’s capital. This will increase tourism and connectivity between these two places. Charleston area officials praised the launch of this service as these added flights will not only increase airline market but also help boost tourism.

Paul Campbell, director of aviation Charleston County, said that it is one more encouragement for their airport and they will celebrate the commencement of the new service this Thursday.

The flights on Charleston-Reagan route will leave Charleston at 07:25 a.m. (and 02:35 p.m.) and arrive in Reagan at 08:52 a.m. (and 04:04 p.m.). The return flight will leave Reagan at 12:20 p.m. (and 06:30 p.m.) and reach Charleston at 01:53 p.m. (and 08:06 p.m.).

JetBlue is offering more flights from Washington as it recently acquired 12 landing slots in Reagan. This is because of the merging of American Airlines and US Airways into the new American Airlines which gave up 52 landing slots in Reagan. US Airways currently provides five flights on this route and is expected to continue to do so. Michelle Mohr, spokeswoman of American Airlines and US Airways, said there are no changes in the flights schedule planned till now.

JetBlue is providing its service to Charleston from February, 2013 onwards. There are around 2.9 million passengers who have used this service on 2013. This number is expected to grow in near future. It is projected that JetBlue will be able to provide its service to around 3.5 million passengers by 2022.

JetBlue is undermining the domination of US Airways in Charleston-Regan route by providing extra seating capabilities. This will affect the fares of JetBlue optimistically. The average airfare in Charleston was $397 in 2013 and national average was $381. The rate of Charleston airfare comes in the 40th place among the top 100 national airports.
