JetBlue and Singapore Airlines seek DOT nod for codeshare pact

JetBlue Airways and Singapore Airlines have decided to do business together and have now moved ahead in this regard. Both New York-based JetBlue Airways and Singapore’s national carrier Singapore Airlines have submitted their applications and seeking approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation to sign bilateral codeshare pact.

Presently, the two airlines are into interline partnership ever since 2011, but are mulling expanded partnership now with codeshare agreement. Upon approval, both the airlines under codeshare deal will be able to offer seamless connections to their respective customers.

A spokesperson of JetBlue Airways said that under the codeshare agreement the customers traveling on either carrier will be able to combine their flights and travel on a single ticket. The customers will also be able to take advantage of easy baggage check-in facilitation.

The codeshare agreement is aimed at providing varied travel options. The customers booking airline tickets on JetBlue Airways will be able to connect to 5 new destinations in Asia and Europe. However, the customers traveling on Singapore Airlines will get access to 16 cities within the United States.

According to JetBlue Airways, the airline will be able to place its flight code on Singapore Airlines flights to/from US such as San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles via Seoul, Hong Kong, Frankfurt and Tokyo.
Similarly, Singapore Airlines will on a reciprocal basis be placing its flight code on JetBlue Airways-operated flights from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to 16 major U.S. cities including West Palm Beach, Washington D.C., Tampa, Syracuse, Rochester, Portland, New Orleans, Orlando, Jacksonville, Houston, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Charlotte, Buffalo, Boston and Austin.

Robin Hayes, President of JetBlue Airways, said that the airline is proud to associate with a first-rate airline like Singapore Airlines in such a short time. The airline takes pride in acknowledging itself as a fast growing airline globally. He also said that with its partnership with such a world-class airline, JetBlue Airways will be able to provide a better product offering and excellent customer service.

Mak Swee Wah, Executive Vice President Commercial of Singapore Airlines, expressed happiness at the new development. He said that the new codeshare pact with JetBlue Airways shows the airline’s commitment to provide seamless travel options to the customers with the expanded network. Wah further said that the opportunities arising out of the combined network will prove beneficial for the customers of both the carriers and demonstrates all that can be achieved with the right partnership.
