Lufthansa launching first Boeing 737-8I on US, India routes

Germany’s flag carrier Lufthansa recently announced it is expecting its first Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircraft delivery by the end of April 2012.

The airline in a statement said after it receives its first Boeing 747-8I aircraft, Lufthansa flights to the US East Coast and India from Frankfurt will be launched by April end this year.

With the launch of the flights, Lufthansa will become the first airline to operate Boeing 747-8I on US and India routes.

According to the airline, five Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental aircrafts are to be delivered to Lufthansa this year as part of its fleet modernization program considered to be the biggest in its history.

Lufthansa also stated that the remaining 15 Boeing 747-8I aircrafts will be delivered at a rate of five aircraft per year.

The airline also introduced a new business class seat for its long-haul fleet at the recently-concluded ITB Tourism Fair in Berlin. Lufthansa disclosed that the new business class seat featuring a 1.98 meter long bed is to be introduced on the first Boeing 747-8I aircraft.
