Lufthansa to retain First Class on 70 percent of its long-haul flights

Germany’s national carrier Lufthansa has indicated that it is looking for opportunities to remove first class seats from some of its aircrafts.

The airline has, however, said it will continue to retain first class seats on 70 percent of its long-haul fleet.

Lufthansa in a statement said that it has already cut the number of first class seats on its planes to eight. This has been due to waning demand and an urge for an improved business class product among corporate travelers.

At the same time, the airline also indicated that the first class cabin remains an integral part of its product portfolio and will continue to have its presence of 70 percent of its long-haul fleet.

The airline stated that it is studying options to remove the first class seats on some of its older Boeing 747-400 aircrafts in its existing fleet. The airline further said that all the revamped jumbos it has ordered would retain a first class cabin.

Lufthansa operates a dedicated terminal at its Frankfurt hub for first class passengers, who can be ferried to the aircrafts in luxury sports cars.
