Mobile apps penetrate into the hotel industry, simplify things

Technology has its own benefits and one industry making the most out of it seems to be the hotel industry. As the world moves ahead with a changing face of technology, it has accepted mobile phones as the new age Gods. These swanky and portable handheld devices have become ubiquitous these days. Some may choose to take a critical view of these tiny machines but the hotel industry across the world is happy.

As per a research by PhoCusWright, about seven percent of hotel bookings last year came through mobile phones and tablet devices. This figure is twelve times higher than it was in the year 2010. The research firm believes that this figure will mount to 20 percent by the end of the current year. The industry cannot afford to ignore the role of these handy machines in contributing to their revenues anymore.

Researchers attribute this to the behavioral changes experienced in the travelers these days. More travelers are now opening to the idea of reserving a last minute hotel deal, leaving behind their inhibitions about higher prices. To assist these travelers, various mobile applications have been floated in the market. The competition is getting tougher for the companies developing these apps as the availability of different applications is making it difficult to sustain in the market. Interestingly, the rivalry is benefiting the travelers who are enjoying various options at their disposal.

However, the situation is not rosy for everyone. Some are concerned about the access to even the minutest of details at the click may end in losing their customers. Travelers are always in the lookout for a better deal and do not hesitate to ditch a previous booking for a lucrative offer. As such, the pressure is back on the hotels to figure out ways and means to retain their customers and entice new ones.
