Now get restricted ‘basic economy’ tickets on American Airlines

Airlines are trying to be as much accommodative and cost effective when it comes to flying economy class. Even the budget conscious customers never had it good as it is now, though sans some facilities. Passengers looking forward to flying economy class can fly rather quite cheap. The amenities would rather depend on what they are actually willing to pay the airline.

American Airlines is now the latest carrier in the United States to offer “basic economy” tickets to its customers starting from February onwards this year. The new tickets would be similar to the bare-bone fares being presently offered by Delta Air Lines. Media reports have also said that United Airlines is also going to follow the footsteps of the two leading U.S. carriers Delta Air Lines and American Airlines.

According to the reports, the “basic economy” tickets will however come with certain conditions. A spokesperson of American Airlines said that the customers will not be allowed to carry rolling carry-on bag along with them when traveling on basic economy tickets. The airline will however allow carrying one bag which fits under the seat, and not the wheeled bags that are usually takes space in the overhead bins.

American Airlines has so far not yet revealed the price of basic economy tickets. The airline is initially planning to offer basic economy tickets at 10 domestic airports in the United States. There are also plans to expand it nationwide during the later stage. The airline also expects to offer basic economy tickets to international destinations as well, such as the Caribbean.

American Airlines has disclosed the terms and conditions that comes along with basic economy tickets. The customers won’t be allowed to carry wheeled carry-on bags. They are permitted to take along with them a single item which will fit under their seat. The customers traveling on this ticket would be in the last group to board the aircraft. The exemption will however be only to those holding an American-branded credit card or a high-level member of American Airlines’ loyalty program. The customers won’t be allowed upgrades. The tickets are also nonrefundable and not liable to be changed.
