Qatar Airways, one of the prominent gulf carriers announced its decision to expand codeshare agreement with US Airways. US Airways is one of the biggest airlines in the United States and it recently completed the merger formalities with another giant carrier American Airlines. The agreement will allow Qatar to operate service via Philadelphia International Airport.
The Doha-based airline is set to launch nonstop service from Philadelphia to its hub in Doha. Passengers will be able to book airline tickets with the carrier beginning April 2, 2014. The airline intends to offer flawless connections from Philadelphia to several destinations and the codeshare expansion will help it achieve its goals. This partnership will benefit passengers flying from the United States on routes served by the gulf carrier across the world. As per the agreement details, the airline will offer flights through US Airways to cities including Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, Boston, Tampa, Fort Lauderdale, Palm beach, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham.
At present, the airline offers service from Doha to several gateways in the U.S. These cities comprise New York, Chicago, Houston, and Washington to destinations in the Middle East, Western Africa, Southeast Asia, and Australia. The two airlines for the first time inked codeshare agreement in 2009 with a focus on operating flights between Doha and the U.S. and Europe. The current agreement will help passengers to travel on a single combined ticket, enjoy one-stop check-in and automatic baggage transfer. The airline joined Oneworld alliance on October 30, 2013 suggesting that it intends to expand its footprints across the globe at a fast pace. The airline, which commenced service in 1994 is today one of the leading airlines in the world and operates service to over 130 destinations in about 70 countries worldwide.
