Scandinavian Airlines introducing Stavanger-Houston route Aug 20

Scandinavian Airlines will be expanding its U.S. network further with the launch of new flights services between Stavanger and Houston soon. The airline is all set to begin nonstop flights to Houston’s George Bush International Airport (IAH) from Norway’s Stavanger Airport (SVG) effective from August 20, 2014.

The airline decided to launch flights between the two destinations after growing demand from leading oil and gas industry players seeking better air connectivity between Houston, Norway and other parts of Scandinavia.

Scandinavian Airlines will deploy an all-business class Boeing 737-700 aircraft on Stavanger-Houston route. The airline’s Long-Haul Business Concept will offer only 44 seats for luxurious travel. The customers will also be offered complimentary full-service meals and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system on board their flights.

The flights between the two cities will be operated on a daily basis except Saturdays. The flights from Houston will depart at 9.35 pm and arrive at Stavanger at2.20 pm next day. The return flight from Stavanger will depart at 4 pm and reach Houston at 7.40 pm the same day. The launch of flights by Scandinavian Airlines will make it the only airline to operate nonstop flights between Houston and Scandinavia.

The airline is introducing the new route just ahead of a leading oil exhibition “Offshore Northern Seas” scheduled to be held in Stavanger. Tickets are already up for sale and customers can plan their travel accordingly.

Rickard Gustafson, Scandinavian Airlines’ President and CEO, said that the Stavanger-Houston route has been designed keeping in view a defined market has its own special travel needs. He said that the airline has considered the customers’ needs and accordingly created a favorable timetable for providing excellent connectivity across Scandinavia in either direction. He stated that Houston has evolved as a major hub for connections to the west and south such as Phoenix, Dallas and Los Angeles with the Star Alliance member airlines.

Mario C. Diaz, Houston Aviation Director, said that presently the city of Houston is efficiently connected with several destinations globally. With the launch of Scandinavian Airlines nonstop flights, the city will get a further boost with enhanced travel options to the residents here.

Apart from launch of new services to Houston, Scandinavian Airlines is currently providing nonstop flight services to Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen from New York’s Newark International Airport. The airline is also connecting key Norwegian cities Stockholm and Copenhagen with flights from Chicago, Washington D.C. and San Francisco.
