Singapore Airlines unveil two new business class seats in 2017-18

Singapore Airlines recently announced it will be launching two new business class seats over the next 18 months in 2017-18. The premium cabins would be installed across its fleets of Boeing 787-10, Airbus A350 and Airbus A380 aircrafts. The move will now see Singapore’s national carrier equipping its business class cabins with lie-flat beds across its entire fleet. The airline is currently relying on angled business class seats on all its regional flights.

Media reports said that Singapore Airlines, which is also Star Alliance member, would be revealing the design of its new business class seats for Airbus A380 aircrafts in mid-2017. During the same time the airline will also be launching its new Airbus A380 first class suites. The airline had earlier showcased its new seats to selected top-tier KrisFlyer travelers in order to fine-tune the design prior to final launch.

According to the reports, the design of the new seats is expected to be similar to those of Boeing 777-300ER ‘Next Generation’ business class which was launched in July 2013. The new seats are expected to debut in October this year when the superjumbo aircraft will mark its 10th anniversary. The reports stated that Singapore Airlines will be initially installing its new first class and business class seats on its five new Airbus A380 aircrafts scheduled to be delivered from October 2017 onwards. The airline is also planning to upgrade its 2006-era suites and seats on most of its long-haul superjumbos currently deployed for operations.

A spokesperson of Singapore Airlines while providing more details said that the new ultra-long range Airbus A350 aircrafts will have the same business class seats being installed on its new Airbus A380 aircrafts. The Airbus A350 aircrafts are scheduled to be delivered in 2018. The airline is planning to deploy these new A350 aircrafts for re-launching nonstop flights from Singapore to New York and Los Angeles. The airline is still to reveal the third U.S. destination where it will be operating its new Airbus A350 aircraft.
