South African Airways bags first place in business class white wine category

South African Airways recently bagged first place in the business class white wine category at the prestigious Global Traveler’s “Wine on the Wing” competition.

Apart from this, the airline also won second place in the red wine category. Emerging triumphant, South African Airways secured an overall second position for the best business class wine offering on international routes.

The prestigious “Wine on the Wing” competition was organized by the U.S.based Global Traveler magazine for the eighth time.

The annual blind tasting competition was held in New York and judged by 28 wine experts hailing from a range of vinicultural professions. There were 29 major carriers from world over which participated in the competition, providing 134 samples for tasting.

Driehoek Sauvignon Blanc 2011, which is served on business class flights operated by South African Airways, emerged as the winner in the business class white wine category.

The award has come close on the heels of the Skytrax World Airlines Awards announced recently in which South African Airways emerged as the best airline in Africa for the tenth consecutive year.
