Spirit Airlines against displaying govt. taxes and fees in published fares

Spirit Airlines along with Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines has strongly opposed the new consumer protection rules by the US Department of Transportation.

Under the new rules, the airlines have been asked to adhere to the set guidelines as mandated by the US Department of Transportation.

According to the rules in practixe now, the airlines will have to allow passengers to deplane whenever an international flight remains on a US tarmac for above 4 hours. The airlines will also be required to pay the customers a hefty compensation fee whenever they are bumped from flights or denied boarding. The airlines have also been directed to promptly disclose all the fees they would be charging for optional aviation services on their websites.

However, Spirit Airlines along with Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines have strongly opposed the new rules saying that they consider it unlawful to forcefully ask the carriers for prominently displaying government fees and taxes in the published fares.

The three airlines contend that the new rules should be revoked till such time until their petition against new consumer protection rules is reviewed by the US Court of Appeals.
