U.S low-cost carrier, Spirit Airlines is widely popular for reasonable fares and fees for a la carte services. On June 1, 2018, it has declared its plan to introduce onboard wireless internet in the upcoming summer, 2019, for a fee for sure. The airlines said, ‘the introduction of Wi-Fi services would make the carrier the first amongst all low-cost airlines to incorporate onboard Wi-Fi facilities.’ In addition, the move is an attempt to stand cheek by jowl to its competitors which offer free wireless internet.
Spirit Airlines is working closely with Thales Group to fit in a Ka-band HTS (High Throughput Satellite) system which is a key to let passengers enjoy high-speed streaming and browsing experience very similar to the one they enjoy while sitting within the comforts of home. However, the service is not available free of cost. It will cost the travelers an amount of about $6.50 to access onboard Wi-Fi, but the rates might alter depending upon the demand and especially route. Passengers would be able to know the rates only when they try to connect to the Wi-Fi server.
The declaration was made in concurrence with the new investment plan of the airline namely Guest Pledge that guarantees to adhere towards an improved customer satisfaction training, on-time flights, efficient check-in, rapid expansion of route network, investment on technology to improve booking procedure and charitable-giving programme.
