Uptown Charlotte to see string of new hotels in future

Uptown Charlotte will be ready to welcome more visitors than before. Several new hotels are being planned for the city. Media reports recently said that work on eight new hotels is currently underway. City leaders are hopeful that the boom in hotels in going to transform the city and its businesses.

Charlotte city authorities want to bid for the NBA All-Star Game and the city requires 6,000 additional hotel rooms. The reports also said that there is already a high demand for hotel rooms in the city.

A study conducted recently outlined the current hotel industry scenario in the city. The study said that with the new hotels being constructed in Charlotte there will be a 25 percent boost in the availability of hotel rooms.

According to the study, there was 11 percent increase of booked rooms in the month of August over 2013. However, when compared to the year 2014, the demand for hotel rooms has increased by 11 percent with 71 percent occupancy.

Media reports indicated that the Embassy Suites with a total of 250 rooms would be the largest hotel to be built from the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The reports quoted Tom Murray, CEO of Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, as saying that if all the eight new hotels are finally completed, there will be 1,200 additional new rooms to Center City itself. Murray, however, said that there will be altogether 6,000 new hotel rooms, which will thus be a 25 percent increase. It may be noted that Westin was the last biggest hotel to be constructed on Stonewall Street in the city in 2003.
