Virgin America''s in-flight entertainment system Red upgraded

As the competition for best services and latest products intensifies among various airlines worldwide, Virgin America has finally decided it's about time to upgrade its state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment (IFE) system “”Red””. In fact, Red was in itself previously considered to be somewhat of a technical marvel when compared to the IFE offerings by other airlines. However, seeing the competition heating up the airline decided to go in for a upgrade.

According to media reports, Red since its launch in 2007 boasted of a 9-inch, 1024x600 pixel resolution touchscreen, USB port, a custom Linux-based OS, Ethernet sockets and power outlets. However, with the latest upgrade Red has now got a new Android-based platform.  Virgin America has said that before its final roll-out it is planning to beta test the new upgrade on 18 aircrafts by this year end.

The reports said that Red beta will be making use of Panasonic's latest Eco V2 in-flight system and will pair a 9-inch or 11-inch 720 pixel capacitive touchscreen along with the company's latest Android-based software. The reports further stated that the touchscreens will also be sporting integrated audio jacks, USB sockets and a credit card reader, and decode HD video at 720p.

A spokesperson of Virgin America said that those traveling on its business class flights or in other classes may look forward to enhanced in-flight entertainment on their long-haul flights. The upgraded IFE will enable the passengers to watch full seasons of popular shows, see latest films and play exciting games.
