With flying bedrooms Emirates takes Luxury Travel to new height

Middle East carriers are determined to set a completely new trend in luxury travel segment. Now, premium customers traveling in first class can look forward to ‘flying bedrooms’ – enclosed and roomier spaces than those found in the business class.

Dubai-based Emirates Airline recently indicated that it is planning to launch a new concept in first class travel with an exclusive offering. The airline after being apparently enthused with the success of premium suites offering on its Airbus A380 superjumbos indicated that it is now working on a new bedroom concept.

Thierry Antinori, Chief Commercial Officer of Emirates Airline, said that the demand for 14 private suites on all the airline’s Airbus A380 aircrafts have outstripped the growth last year. Drawing upon this success, the airline said that it had to finally decide on finding more ways on how to enhance luxury further and take it to a new level.

Antinori said that the first class customers are looking increasingly for privacy and the airline is therefore committed to provide more privacy than what is being provided presently.

He said that the new bedroom concept will be that of fully enclosed rooms with all the amenities and touches that are usually available in a private bedroom on luxury yacht or a hotel. The customers will be provided room service as well. These new rooms will be available on Emirates Airline’s Airbus A380 and new Boeing 777 aircrafts.

Antinori revealed that the airline is currently in advanced stages of putting its new bedroom concept into implementation. The airline however refused to disclose the price of such bedroom as of now. The first class suites of the airline are presently being offered at $500,000 approximately.

The airline’s current fleet of A380 and Boeing 777 aircrafts is equipped with a total of 1,500 first class suites. Each suite is equipped with lie-flat bed, dividing screens creating a large space for customers traveling together, and state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment system featuring above 1,400 films.

Emirates Airline is following cue after its rival Middle East carrier Etihad Airways announced May 4 that it is working on a plan for installing 9 first class apartments on its first superjumbos, which is said to be the biggest in the aviation industry till date.

According to Etihad Airways, each Airbus A380 aircraft will be equipped with “The Residence”, an individually-styled cabin with a shower room, separate living area and a double bed. The airline will soon be acquiring 10 Airbus A 380 aircrafts.
