Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate: what more could a traveler ask for, besides cheap international flights and cheap tickets to Zurich?
The Swiss are quite proud of their cultural heritage and especially their chocolate. This city first became a chocolate center after its mayor was introduced to chocolate in neighboring Belgium in the late 17th century. In Zurich you’ll find chocolate walks, chocolate shops, chocolate tours, and more. One of the best-known brands of Swiss chocolate is Lindt, although Frey is also quite popular within Switzerland. Both brands can be found at most Zurich supermarkets. Frey is one of the only Swiss chocolate manufacturers in charge of the entire chocolate-making process, from their beans to their bars. Frey offers free factory tours.
Must-visit places for the Zurich chocolate experience are the city’s confectioneries. It is a real treat to explore all these chocolate shops, but be careful, as you might end up spending more than you did on your plane tickets through a cheap ticket airline. Some visitors head right to the city’s most famous chocolate shops, Teuscher and Sprungli, after arriving on their flights to Zurich. There are three Teuscher locations in the city and you can find Sprungli stores all over Zurich. One of Sprungli’s most exciting attractions is the Truffe du Jour, or Truffle of the Day. Watch it being made with the freshest ingredients and raw cream. The Grand Cru Sauvage truffle is a pricy masterpiece of wild Bolivian cacao beans. Besides the chocolate, Sprungli is also famous for their miniature macaroons known as Luxemburgerli, filled with all kinds of delicious, natural ingredients. Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland, whose original store and kitchens are in Zurich, are famous for their truffles and chocolate bars as well as their marzipan, champagne chocolates and other delights. For decadent hot chocolate during a late fall or winter visit to Zurich, visit Péclard at Cafe Schober where you’ll enjoy a thick, luscious hot chocolate made with cream. Beschle is a marvelous chocolatier famous for their quirky offerings like the absinthe-infused Green Fairy truffle.
With the money you would save on cheap flight deals and cheap tickets to Zurich, indulge in Switzerland’s chocolate delights and even bring home some truffles for friends and families. While the Swiss still consume more pounds of chocolate per capita than anyone else on Earth, but maybe visitors arriving on cheap flights to Zurich can challenge them for the title!
How about that?
