The NYC Cheat Sheet

When it comes to booking flights to New York City you might as well, book yourself for weeks and weeks, for there is so much to savor in this strikingly spectacular and dazzling city! But since you may not have that kind of time, here’s a cheat sheet on NYC that gets you the best the city has to offer- both in terms of saving time and money.

Book your airline tickets on cheap flights for spring and early summer, as this is when you can get to feast on a whole lot of city attractions for free. Also this the time when the weather is great and there are a lot of fairs and parades happening. Yet another season the tourists book their cheap tickets to New York City for is September. The city seems to be bathed in the colorful hues of the foliage and there is much excitement as theater, concerts, ballet and opera unabashedly court the city!

If you are interested in museums and other typical NYC attractions, then before you hail that cab to take you from one place to the other, throughout the day, make a pit stop at Times Square and purchase that all important City Pass! This lets you enjoy six of the most coveted and visited city attractions – Guggenheim Museum, Empire State Building, the Museum of Modern Art, the statue of Liberty, the American Museum of Natural History and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The city pass is valid for nine days only and comes at a cost of $79 per person. Not a bad investment, we say!

When it comes to negotiating the city, you can opt for anything that catches your fancy - Public buses, subway or cabs. Do opt for a ride at the subway as it is a typical NYC thing to do, not to mention that if you purchase your MetroCard, you can swing forth traveling via bus and metro. A point to remember is that the maximum limit of change you can get back after you are done traveling is $6, so remember to exhaust the card as much as you can. The card can be easily recharged at the numerous card vending machines through all major credit cards and debit cards.

Besides this keep it a point to not advertise that you are a traveler, even though the city is rather safe. But there are few places and areas that you should avoid. Do not wear flashy jewelry or carry it around with you. Always deposit the valuable at the hotel safe. When in a restaurant do not keep your bag on the back of your chair or beneath the table.

To ensure you keep your stomach filled as well as your wallet, opt for eating at and soaking in the experience at neighborhoods like Chinatown etc. Have an NYC bagel or gorge at the food offered by the street vendors! You can also relish a mouth-watering pizza slice.

When it comes to shopping, splurge on all that you can but if you plan on buying a fake, make sure it is not a watch as they tend to stop the minute you leave the seller!
