Golden Gate Bridge - Pride of San Francisco

If you ever thought of visiting a wonderful bridge then Golden Gate Bridge is one of the marvels of engineering to have a rendezvous with. The bridge is located in San Francisco and was opened for public in the year 1937. At that time it was the longest and the tallest suspension bridge in the world. The bridge spans the Golden Gate strait, which is one mile wide and three miles long channel between Pacific Ocean and San Francisco bay. This bridge has been described as one of the wonders of the modern world.

Golden Gate Bridge is considered as the most beautiful and the most photographed bridge in the world. The bridge got its fame just after its creation owing to the beautiful Art Deco design, two huge towers, and the wonderful atmosphere near the Pacific Ocean. The orange red color of the bridge makes the bridge more attractive and popular. The bridge is no longer in record for the longest and the tallest bridge in the world but is still the worlds famous and the most talked about structure.

Golden Gate Bridge was designed by engineer Joseph Strauss. The construction started in the year 1933. This bridge was built to connect San Francisco with Marin County. It stretches around 1600 meters. The construction of the bridge was a huge task and it was difficult to span this bridge. The bridge was created using thousands of workers that took four years to complete the bridge. Around 35 million dollars were spent in this project. The bridge was inaugurated on May 27, 1937 by 18,000 people who crossed the bridge for the first time. From the second day onwards the bridge was officially opened for traffic. Now, each day you can find more than 120,000 vehicles cross the bridge.

There is a sidewalk on the bridge used by people who cross the bridge by foot. It is quite a challenge to cross the bridge by walking as the bridge is around 3 km long and is at a breathtaking height of 67 m. Walking on the bridge becomes unpleasant in adverse cases. During strong winds and earthquakes the bridge may sway almost 8 meter. You can also cross the bridge by car by paying toll tax or use a bus that travel between San Francisco and Marin County.

To get to the Golden Gate Bridge you need to reach Presidio Park using your car or through public transport. However the best way to reach to the bridge is by foot. You can either walk from the Baker Beach to the west or from Marina District to the east of the bridge. These two routes will lead you through a park.

The view of the bridge is really marvelous both when seen from distance and also while crossing it. The great views of the bridge can be obtained from South Vista Point, North Vista Point, Land’s End, Conzelman Road, Lincoln Park, and Presidio Park. The bridge looks awesome in the morning when it is covered in fog and at night when the lighting makes the spire seems to disappear in the dark.
