JetBlue Airways additional frequencies help Stewart International Airport boost traffic in 2011

Additional frequencies of flights by JetBlue Airways in 2011 helped boost passenger traffic to Stewart International Airport, said the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey recently.

Michael Torelli, Head of Business Development at Stewart International Airport, provided operational details to the Stewart Airport Commission and reported that 2011 was the best year since 2008.

The airport reported a modest gain in passenger traffic, up 4.6 percent to 413,815 last year.

Additional frequencies by Delta Air Lines also contributed for most of the gains by the airport.

The airport authorities have said that they are taking significant steps now to revamp the airport and expand the passenger terminal to enable effective handling of international flights on a permanent basis. The work is likely to begin in early 2013.
