JetBlue Airways February 2012 traffic revenues likely to be up 7 or 8 percent

JetBlue Airways is yet to report its February 2012 passenger traffic results, media reports recently said. But, the February outcome is likely to be positive as the airline had earlier beat analyst expectations in the fourth quarter by nearly tripling earnings.

JetBlue Airways flights tickets recorded impressive sales in January this year, with passenger traffic increasing 13 percent. During the same month, the airline’s capacity rose 12 percent, while passenger revenue per available seat mile increased 10 percent as compared to the same month in 2011.

Even before announcing its operational results, the airline indicated that it expected its preliminary passenger revenue per available seat mile for February 2012 to grow somewhere between 7 to 8 percent.

However, JetBlue Airways rival Southwest Airlines announced its February 2012 operational results, and said that its passenger traffic for the month increased 3.9 percent as compared to the same month in 2011. This is also Southwest Airline’s first traffic increase in three months. The airline further stated that its capacity increased 6.2 percent during February this year.
