JetBlue Airways gets go ahead on its expansion plans at New York JFK Terminal 5

JetBlue Airways recently announced it has received approval from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's Board of Commissioners to continue with its expansion plans at New York JFK Terminal 5.

The airline wants to handle JetBlue Airways flights out of the new international arrivals facility, which it wants to construct. The new international arrivals facility will be named T5i.

After receiving the go ahead on its plans, the airline will now be adding an additional 145,000 square feet of space on three levels onto Terminal 5. The new T5i facility will include dedicated gates to accommodate JetBlue Airways international arrivals as well as handling wide-body aircrafts being operated by partner carriers.

According to the airline, the construction of a new Federal Inspection Site to handle United States customs and immigration checks will also help in completely doing away with the need for JetBlue Airways international arrivals to be processed at New York JFK Terminal 4.

The airline indicated that it wants to begin construction of the new T5i facility this summer and aims to complete it in early 2015.

Currently, JetBlue Airways operated flights to many international destinations from New York JFK including Barbados, Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Mexico, Saint Lucia, St. Maarten, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
