JetBlue Airways may begin flights to San Juan and Austin

JetBlue Airways recently announced it wants to begin flights to the capitals of Puerto Rico and Texas from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, and is seeking DOT approval.

The airline in a statement said it has filed with the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) a “capital-to-capital” application for four beyond-perimeter slot exemptions to launch new nonstop JetBlue Airways flights to Puerto Rico’s capital San Juan and Texas capital Austin from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

The proposed new flights would be the only nonstop service between U.S. capital Washington, D.C. and the capitals of Puerto Rico and Texas.

Both the airports at San Juan and Austin are located beyond Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport’s 1,250-mile perimeter, and are currently among the 10 largest markets without nonstop air service to Washington’s Ronald Regan National Airport.

After approval, JetBlue Airways will start offering one daily nonstop roundtrip flight to San Juan’s Luiz Munoz Marin International Airport, with connecting service to U.S. Virgin Islands’ capital St. Thomas. The airline will also offer one daily roundtrip flight to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.
