JetBlue Airways, two other airlines get slots at Long Beach Airport

JetBlue Airways recently announced that it has been successful in getting slots at Long Beach Airport. The other two airlines to get slots include Delta Air Lines and US Airways.

The success by the three airlines comes two weeks after Allegiant Airlines decided to end its service at Long Beach Airport from November 29, 2011. The three daily slots left vacant by Allegiant Airlines has now been filled up and distributed among JetBlue Airways, US Airways and Delta Air Lines. The three airlines, which have been allotted the positions, are likely to announce destinations in a few days.

Mario Rodriguez, Director of Long Beach Airport, said that the slots demand were overwhelming and the airport was finding it difficult to fulfill all the requests which it had received, which were abnormally high. Rodriguez said that they couldn’t wait any longer to fill the slots and immediate moves had to be taken as the demands for slots are far too many than could be filled. City ordinances mandate Long Beach Airport to handle 41 daily passenger flights at the maximum.

Long Beach Airport currently handles flights to 13 cities, including San Francisco, Boston, Chicago, New York and Anchorage.
