Spirit Airlines arrival boost Phoenix-Mesa Gateway traffic

With the arrival of Spirit Airlines flights to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway in February 2012, there has been a significant boost in the passenger traffic at the airport.

Spirit Airlines flights to Las Vegas were launched last month, while Spirit Airlines flights tickets will be available for flights to Dallas/Fort Worth, which begins from March 22, 2012.

Lynn Kusy, Executive Director of Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, said that so far the airport’s growth has been the result of a single discount carrier Allegiant. But, with the arrival of Spirit Airlines at the airport the passenger traffic has received a major boost.

Kusy said that an influx of spring training fans and tourists has boosted the traffic to record levels at the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. In March this year, the airport will be handling 150,000 passengers.

She also said that the airport is likely to break other records this year. It is estimated that the passenger traffic will jump 32 percent. It will also be for the first time that Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport will be reaching the 1 million milestone, with more than 1.2 million passengers expected this year.
