Spirit Airlines flights helped increase Yeager Airport 2011 traffic

Charleston’s Yeager Airport reported a considerable increase in its passenger traffic in 2011. Rick Atkinson, Director of Yeager Airport, announcing the results said in a statement that the number of people boarding flights at Yeager Airport increased 10 percent in 2011 as compared to 2010.

Atkinson said that 2011 was the third-best year ever for the airport. He also said that the airport reported strong growth of 10 percent at a time when the national growth rate was about 1.5 percent. He further indicated that even the year 2012 had also started strong.

Atkinson said that low-cost fares to Myrtle Beach offered by Spirit Airlines flights have helped drive increase in 2011 passenger traffic. He further said that even low fares offered by AirTran Airways helped in increasing the traffic.
