Spirit Airlines reports jump in profits in Q2 2012

Spirit Airlines flights have put up a remarkable showing in the second quarter of this year reporting big jump in profits.

Spirit Airlines recently announced its operational results for the second quarter of 2012 and was quite upbeat at the outcome.

The airline in a statement said that its net income for the quarter that ended June 30, 2012 was $34.6 million as compared to $16.9 million in 2011.
Miramar-based Spirit Airlines reported a $70.4 million increase in its operating revenue. The airline’s total operating revenue was $346.3 million.

According to Spirit Airlines, there was a drop of 1.1 percent in average base ticket revenue per passenger flight segment to $81.06. However, the airline’s average non-ticket revenue spiked 18.6 percent to $51.47 per passenger flight segment.

The revenue earned by Spirit Airlines include those it charged from its customers for carry-on bags as well as boarding passes printed by airport agents.
