Spirit Airlines ‘Slammer Sale’ makes fun of Rod Blagojevich’s prison term

Spirit Airlines is at it again. The airline is at its controversial best by making use of Rod Blagojevich’s infamy for selling cheap tickets to select few cities in the United States.

Rod Blagojevich is former Illinois governor sentenced to 14-year prison term this week on scores of corruption charges, including failed attempt to sell off an appointment to US President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat.

Recently, Spirit Airlines introduced “Slammer Sale” offering US$14 cheap flights to Boston, Detroit, New York and Dallas limited for travel to a few dates in February 2012. The US$14 price of air tickets was set to match 14-year prison term to Rod Blagojevich.

While offering “Slammer Sale”, Spirit Airlines advertisement exhorted passengers saying “you don’t have to live in the ‘Big House’ to take advantage of these fares”. The pitch in the same vein further continued: “You don’t want to get convicted for missing this seat-selling sale!”

However, this is not for the first time that Spirit Airlines had tried to poke fun at Rod Blagojevich. A few months ago the airline had launched an “F-ing Golden” sale, which poked fun at Blagojevich’s language on government wiretaps while he talked about who to appoint to the U.S. Senate in 2008.
