Spirit Airlines to stop flights to Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport
Passengers taking Spirit Airlines flights to/from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport are in for a shock as the airline has decided to stop flying here.
However, there’s a happy element as well from the region. Spirit Airlines will not abandon Phoenix after all. The airline has instead decided to begin flights to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, the metro area’s primary airport.
Spirit Airlines will begin its first flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport starting from October 24, 2013. The airline will also be adding nonstop service to Dallas/Fort Worth on the same day.
Those who are currently holding reservations for flights to/from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport needn’t be worried at all as the airline has already indicated that it will be reaching out to the customers and see what it can do best for them in the circumstances.
In retrospect, Spirit Airlines has also decided to shift its other two Phoenix-Mesa routes to Phoenix Sky Harbor. The airline has sounded out that it will begin its flights services to Chicago O’Hare and Denver starting from November 7 this year.
Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport authorities had long been trying to develop it as an alternative airport for the Phoenix metro area, but the move of Spirit Airlines to shift flights out of here is being seen as a blow and dampener for their initiative.
