JetBlue Airways charter flights to Cuba from Fort Lauderdale begins September 17

JetBlue Airways recently said that it has been hired by a tour operator to operate charter flights to Cuba from Fort Lauderdale from September 17, 2011.

According to the airline, the tour operator Airline Brokers Co. had earlier planned to begin charter flights to Havana from September 12, 2011 twice weekly from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

The charter flights will now be operated only once a week from September 17, 2011. The flight will depart on Saturdays every week at 12.30 pm.

JetBlue Airways said that it will operate charter flights deploying an A320 aircraft. Whereas the tour operator said that the Cuban authorities are yet to approve its proposal to operate charter flights twice a week.

In recent months, both the Cuban and US governments have agreed to allow new charter flights to operate between the two countries. A new charter flight to Cuba from Tampa is scheduled to begin from this week onwards. Besides, charter flights to Cuba from San Juan, Puerto Rico started from August 26, 2011.
