Spirit Airlines likely to provide direct flights to Myrtle Beach

Spirit Airlines would be the preferred option to provide direct flights to Myrtle Beach, said Killarney Mayor Sean Counihan recently. There are currently no direct flights to Myrtle Beach. The travelers usually take flights to New York or catch flights to Atlanta to get connecting flights to Myrtle Beach.

An Irish pub owner on Ocean Drive in North Myrtle Beach was quoted by media reports as saying that access to a direct flight to Ireland from the Grand Strand would be simply wonderful because there are numerous tourists from Ireland who either take New York flights or Atlanta flights to get connecting flights to Myrtle Beach. The starting of direct flights to Myrtle Beach would make it so much easier to get here.

Killarney Mayor Sean Counihan has also expressed desire for starting a transatlantic flight between Killarney and Grand Strand, terming it as a real possibility. Killarney in Ireland is one of Myrtle Beach’s sister cities.

Counihan said that Spirit Airlines would be the preferred option to begin direct flights to Myrtle Beach. He said that if the agreement is reached at, initially one flight per week for up to 16 weeks would begin. Besides Spirit Airlines, he also said that other airlines are also being considered.
