No discount for U.S. military personnel by Spirit Airlines

U.S. military personnel on active duty are usually welcomed by most of the airlines with various discounts and freebies. But, the tight-fisted Spirit Airlines is among one such carrier which refuses to honor active duty military personnel by providing them discounts on Spirit Airlines flights.

Most domestic carriers offer perks, including free bags, modest discounts and special rates, to active duty U.S. military personnel. However, the Fort Lauderdale-based budget carrier Spirit Airlines has refused to offer discounted airfares for fighting men and women, and is currently in the midst of a controversy and taking heat from veterans groups for refusing to refund a $197 to a dying veteran. According to the airline’s website “All fares must be booked as (ADT) adult fares”.

This is though not the case with other U.S. carriers like JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, U.S. Airways, AirTran Airways, Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Sun Country Airlines.

JetBlue Airways offer up to 5 free checked bags for military personnel on orders, as well as their dependents. While, Minnesota-based budget carrier Sun Country Airlines allows 2 free checked bags for military personnel on official orders.
