Spirit Airlines carry-on bags fee experiment a great success

Contrary to the belief that charging carry-on bags fee would give tough times for an airline raising fears of putting it out of business, Spirit Airlines rather had quite an opposite effect and made it hugely successful in terms of garnering revenues from carry-on bags fees.

A new study has indicated that carry-on bag fees being currently charged by Spirit Airlines are generating an additional US$50 million profit annually.

Before the enacting of carry-on bags fee, the total average cost of flying Spirit Airlines was approximately US$110 per ticket. However, ever since carry-on bags fee came into vogue in August 2010 the average price has just gone up by about US$3.

The airline charges carry-on bags fee on those bags only that can’t fit under a seat. This move of the airline has immensely benefited those passengers from lower ticket prices who don’t carry larger bags, but only those bags that easily fit under their seats.

Usually, other airlines have added several amenities that come along with their ticket prices. This makes the passengers pay a high cost for the tickets. However, when flying with Spirit Airlines the passengers have to pay for their seats only, which though is devoid of other amenities provided by other airlines thus drastically lowering ticket prices.
