Spirit Airlines suspends Niagara Falls flights due to runway reconstruction

Spirit Airlines recently announced it is temporarily suspending flights to two southern destinations starting from May this year due to the reconstruction work at the main runway at Niagara Falls International Airport.

The airline in a statement said that all Spirit Airlines flights from Niagara Falls International Airport to Myrtle Beach scheduled between May 15 and June 20, 2012 are being canceled because of the scheduled reconstruction of the airport’s main runway.

The airline further indicated that it will be canceling flights to Fort Lauderdale from Niagara Falls International Airport scheduled between May 15 and June 30, 2012 due to runway reconstruction work.

Spirit Airlines officials said that all customers with reservations to and from Niagara Falls being affected during the reconstruction period would be contacted and given full refunds, as well as $100 future travel vouchers.

The $18.3 million makeover work on 10,000-feet-long main runway will be done in two phases. The work is slated to begin May 15, 2012, with an 8,000-foot section to be done first.
