PEOPLExpress reboots its 1980s brand, begins flights to Atlanta

The PEOPLExpress has rebooted its 1980s airline brand and once again returned to the world’s busiest airport in Atlanta. The low-cost carrier recently started its inaugural flights to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The new flights are being operated from its main hub at Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport in eastern Virginia.

Jeff Erickson, CEO of PEOPLExpress, while expressing happiness at the launch of the new service said that the original PEOPLExpress in 1980s made Atlanta as its important destination. He said that the airline is delighted once again to return to the same key destination with amazing low fares and seamless nonstop service.

With the launch of the new service, PEOPLExpress will now be operating once daily roundtrip flights between Atlanta and Newport News. The airline has announced promotional fares starting at $79* on the Newport News-Atlanta route.

A spokesperson of PEOPLExpress said that the airline will be charging $15 for advance seat reservations, $20 for first checked bag, $25 for each carry-on bag in overhead bins per segment, among various other fees.

PEOPLExpress once again became operational starting from June 30, 2014. The airline is presently serving six destinations including West Palm Beach, Pittsburgh, Newport News, Newark Liberty, Boston and Atlanta. The airline will also be launching new flights between St. Petersburg and New Orleans starting from August 28, 2014. The airline will be serving all its routes to/from its main hub at Newport News-Williamsburg International Airport.

The idea of resurrecting the PEOPLExpress brand took shape in February 2012. However, the airline finally started its new service only from June 2014.
