Spirit Airlines to target future expansion in Houston

Ultra low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines is currently in the formative stages of its unprecedented growth, media reports have recently said. The airline is on the verge of expanding its fleet is a big way. The fleet acquisition program which began in October this year will now extend over 15-month duration. During this period, the airline will replenish its fleet size from the existing 58 to 80 aircrafts.

In 2014, the airline witnessed an 18 percent growth. However, it is planning to boost its capacity in 2015 by about 30 percent.

Media reports quoted a spokesperson of Spirit Airlines as saying that Houston is now going to be its next target for future expansion. The airline finds the city to be quite an attractive market. Legacy carrier like United Airlines is holding sway in the aviation market here.

Spirit Airlines finds United to be quite costly to the customers and therefore wants to aggressively compete with this airline with its time-tested cheap airfares strategy. The airline has been frequently emphasizing that it follows a simple strategy of “Price Above All”.

Even a recent study found out that for most people the airfares prices continue to be the No. 1 factor when it comes to choosing flights. Taking into account this important factor, Spirit Airlines has been consistently focusing on its avowed policy of maintaining stability in its big pricing gap and provide stiff competition to legacy carriers and other domestic rivals. The airline is now showing a marked shift in its strategy by focusing on large markets where it is confident of getting at least 150 to 200 passengers daily flying each way.
