WestJet Airlines boost seasonal service out of Hamilton airport

Canada’s leading carrier WestJet Airlines recently announced it is boosting its seasonal service out of Hamilton International Airport. The airline’s move has made the airport officials happy making them hopeful that the seasonal boost in service would bring in more traffic to the airport.

The airline has started offering daily nonstop WestJet Airlines flights to Edmonton, Halifax, Moncton and Winnipeg from April 28, 2012. The airline is also adding a daily flight to Calgary to its existing service of two flights per day.

WestJet Airlines started operating these domestic flights after the end of its weekly sun service to Cancun, Orlando and Punta Cana at the end of April this year.

Frank Scremin, President and CEO of Hamilton International Airport, said that Hamilton is very strong with the friends and family market in the summer and there are lots of east-west travel. He also said that airport officials are trying to lobby WestJet Airlines to make Hamilton part of its network in an upcoming domestic regional air service, being widely seen as a “game changer” in Canada’s domestic airline market.
